Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Fly to Gonder
In the morning fly to Gonder- Gonder was the first capital City of the Ethiopian Empire, which began in 1632 under the reign of King Fasilledes. In Gonder, there are dozens of castles built by various emperors over the course of 236 years. Gonder visit includes the palace, residence, and open-air baths of King Fasilledes; (World Heritage Site by UNESCO) the church of Debre Berhan Sellassie (Light of The Trinity) with its 16th Century painting and frescoes, which is located at the summit of a hill and surrounded by fortified walls.
Day 2: Drive to the Semien Mountains National Park
In the morning drive to the Semien Mountains National Park via Debark the gateway to the park and continue driving to reach Sankaber. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and Ahmara people of their villages. The Semien Mountain National Park is a world heritage site by UNESCO and we will visit its exceptional natural beauty which includes superb scenery, endemic fauna, and flora. Among other endemics, it is here the Gelada baboon (bleeding heart Baboon) is found.
Day 3: Drive to Axum
Drive to Axum, a holy city of Ethiopia, dating back over 2000 years and the cradle of Ethiopian civilization with the Axumite kingdom, tour of Axum includes: Axum stele or obelisks; the largest single pieces of stone standing anywhere in the world, castles of former monarchs, the Axum museum and Mariam Tsion church, built on the site of Ethiopia’s first church AD, and palace of Sheba and the Gundit stele field, kind Ezana’s inscriptions and the tombs of Kaleb and Gebremeskel.
Day 4: Drive to Mekele
Drive to Mekele. On the way, visit some of the rock churches which are found in the Wukro area the church of Wukro cherkos.
Day 5: Drive to Lalibela
Drive to Lalibela to tour the famous eleven rock hewn churches of 12th century. The city contains 11 monolithic churches that were built in the 12th century and carved out of the pink granite rock; they have been classified as a UNESCO world heritage site. Each church (Bet) has a unique architectural style; all are superbly carved and most of them are decorated with well-preserved paintings.
Day 6: Full Day at Lalibela
Enjoy this historic UNESCO World Heritage site by visiting two groups of historic churches in Lalibela.
Day 7: Asheton Mariam Monastery & Yimrahene Kirstos
In the morning drive to the top of Asheton Mariam Monastery. This is very famous for its 12th century monastery church and beautiful view at 10,298 ft above sea level. We will walk through dramatic highland scenery and which eventually ends in beautiful serene agricultural hamlet. In the afternoon drive to Yimrahene Kirstos (Let Christ Lead us) monastery church.
Day 8: Return to Addis Ababa
Fly back to Addis and end of the tour departure.
